Humans sit atop the food web and have innovated over 1000's of years to be able to catch and eat most other species in the arctic food web.
Traditional Hunting
Traditionally, hunters used tools made of stone and animal products such as bone, ivory, antlers, teeth, and horns to catch they prey in the air, on the sea ice and under the water. Harpoons, clubs and spears were used to catch marine mammals such as whales and seal. Slings were used to take down sea birds while fishing lines, nets and spears were used to catch fish. In addition to the tools, Inuit developed many strategies to catch prey in very challenging conditions. Dogs teams were used to chase and wear down polar bears and seal skin build used to hunts whales.
Modern Hunting
Most hunters now use guns, snow mobiles and gps to navigate but they still rely on their traditional knowledge of ice to stay safe on the land.
