Chert
Chert = Microcrystalline Quartz (ᐊᓕᒍᖅ)
The presence of high silica concentrations in early sea water allowed formation of silica particles that remained suspended in the ocean for extended periods of time. Their precipitation in quiet, deep-marine settings formed chert.

Chert: 7 cm thick bed of microcrystalline quartz separating mafic volcanic flows.

Interflow chert: grey chert (quiet deep-water setting) separating intermediate volcanic flows.

Interpillow chert: precipitated into interpillow spaces.

White and black chert: thinly bedded white chert alternating with black chert (trace amounts of organic matter). (ᖃᑯᖅᑐᖅ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᕿᓂᖅᑐᖅ ᐊᓕᒍᖅ)
