Mafic pillowed flow (ᐳᕕᖅᑐᑦ ᐅᔭᖃᑦ ᐊᐅᔪᑦ): concentrically shaped mafic lava ('pillows') formed by expelled blobs of lava, quickly quenched on the sea floor.


Mafic tubes and pillows (ᐳᕕᖅᑐᑦ ᐅᔭᖃᑦ ᓱᓪᓗᓕᑯᑖᓪᓗ): linear lava tubes (white arrows) and concentric pillows.

Mafic pillows (ᐅᔭᖃᑦ ᐊᐅᓂᑯᑦ ᐳᕕᕐᓂᑯᑦ): top has drainage cavities (paleo-horizontal), partly filled with quartz.

Mafic pillow (ᐅᔭᖃᑦ ᐊᐅᓂᑯᑦ ᐳᕕᕐᓂᑯᑦ): set of drainage cavities (paleo-horizontal) now filled with calcite.

Hyaloclastite (ᐅᔭᖃᓄᑦ ᐃᓚᓕᐅᑎᑦᑎᐊᖅᓯᒪᔪᑦ): spalled glassy shards due to quench fragmentation of pillow rings ("selvages"); cemented by calcite. (From the Greek hyalus).

Pillows with bleached margins (ᐳᕕᖅᓯᒪᔪᑦ ᖃᑯᖅᓯᓯᒪᓂᐅᓪᓗᑎᒃ): in contact with massive flow.
